A Half-Day in Victoria, Mahé's Capital

October 6, 2026

Victoria is Seychelles' capital and the only real town on Mahé: small enough to see the highlights in a few hours, which makes it an easy stop to pair with a beach or viewpoint on the same day.

The clock tower

Victoria's clock tower, locally known as 'Lorloz' (Creole for 'the clock'), sits at the centre of town and is one of the most photographed landmarks in Seychelles: a small cast-iron replica of Little Ben in London, installed in the early 1900s. It's a natural starting point for walking the town centre, since most of what's worth seeing is within a few minutes of it on foot.

Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market

Victoria's covered market is the best place to see everyday island life: stalls of fresh fish, tropical fruit, spices and local produce downstairs, with souvenirs, vanilla and handicrafts upstairs. It's at its liveliest in the morning, and a good spot to pick up something to bring home.

Our take

Victoria doesn't need a full day on its own: a stop of an hour or two is usually enough to see the clock tower and market and get a feel for the town, which is exactly why we build it into a half-day stop rather than a standalone trip. Both our Mahé Half-Day Tour (North) and Full-Day Highlights Tour pass through Victoria alongside beaches and viewpoints, so you get the town without spending the whole day there.
