Best Time to Visit Mahé, Seychelles
October 1, 2026
Mahé sits close to the equator, so temperatures stay warm all year, generally between 24°C and 31°C. What actually changes through the year is the wind direction, and that has a bigger effect on your trip than the temperature does.
The two monsoon seasons
From around December to March, the Northwest monsoon brings warmer, more humid air and a higher chance of short tropical showers. Seas tend to be calmer on Mahé's east coast during this period, while west-facing beaches can get a bit choppier.
From around May to September, the Southeast monsoon takes over: drier, breezier and slightly cooler. West coast beaches like Beau Vallon are more sheltered and calm during this season, while the east and south coasts can see stronger winds and rougher water.
April and October sit between the two monsoons. Winds are typically lightest in these transition months, which often means calmer seas across more of the island and better underwater visibility for snorkelling.
Crowds and pricing
July, August and the Christmas/New Year period are Mahé's busiest and most expensive weeks, since they line up with European and local school holidays. If you'd rather have beaches and guides to yourself, the shoulder months (April to June and September to October) tend to be quieter without sacrificing good weather.
Our take
There isn't a single bad time to visit Mahé. It comes down to what you want from the trip. If calm water for swimming and snorkelling is the priority, aim for the inter-monsoon months (April or October) or the Southeast monsoon (May–September) if you're sticking to west coast beaches. If you want guaranteed warmth and don't mind the odd shower, the Northwest monsoon months still work well, especially on the east coast.
